In this paper, we study how to
track the order of RFID tags on moving conveyor belts. Regulated by the RFID
standard, communications between RFID readers and tags by themselves provide
irrelevant information to determine the relative position of tags. Yet we
observe that multiple attributes are associated with the communications and
there exists a strong temporary correlation among those attributes. By taking
advantage of such a correlation, we propose a protocol called OTrack in this
paper. OTrack intelligently integrates different communication attributes,
yielding a stable indication to determine the physical position of each tag
with respect to the reader. Based on such location information, the order of
tags on a moving conveyor belt can be continuously tracked. To guarantee the
protocol performance, we further analyze system parameters of OTrack
mathematically. In the end, we evaluate the accuracy and effectiveness of our
protocol through a one-month experiment conducted at Beijing Capital
International Airport.
